New In Karea: An AI Chat That Does It All, Open Question Windows, And Calendar Picking
This update makes Karea AI able to do almost anything you can do yourself, gives open questions a home of their own, lets you choose which calendar events come into Karea, and smooths out planning, subtasks and resources. Here is what changed.
Karea AI Can Now Do Almost Everything
Ask the chat and it acts, across the whole app:
- Meetings: "link today's 4 pm meeting to the website redesign task" works. It can also create, move and delete meetings, add attendees and the meeting link, and asks whether a change is for one meeting or the whole series.
- Open questions: it sees the questions on a task, so "link the question I have in this task to today's meeting" just works. It can also set reminders on questions.
- Everything on a task: tags, linked tasks, reminders, work sessions, repeats, review stage, pinned notes and its history, even for a task you don't have open.
- Your plan: "block 2 to 4 pm today for this task" creates the work session; "make this repeat every Monday" sets it up.
- Sharing: it can change a member's role or remove them from a project, and always asks you to confirm first.
It is also better at answering. "Is there a task about X?" now searches every task, including descriptions and notes, and gives you the answer instead of a vague "Done." Each action is confirmed once, with the task it touched, instead of twice.
Open Questions Get Their Own Window
Click an open question anywhere in Karea (the quick actions panel, a meeting, a task, the chat, a reminder) and a window opens with everything about it: status, answer, notes, linked tasks and meetings, and resources.
- Answer it, change its status or edit it right there.
- Link it to a meeting, with the same search you use from a task.
- Set reminders on open questions, just like on tasks and meetings.
- Putting a question on a meeting's agenda brings its tasks along. Adding a task to a meeting leaves its questions where they are.
You Choose What Comes In From Your Calendar
Syncing your calendar now shows the events from the last week and the next 30 days, grouped by day, and you pick which ones to import.
- Meetings you already imported follow your calendar: a moved meeting gets its new time, place and attendees.
- Your edits are safe. Prep notes, transcripts and links are never touched, and once you rename a meeting or edit its description in Karea, the calendar no longer overwrites them.
- Meetings now have an editable description.
Subtasks Stay Honest
- Closing a task with open subtasks asks first: close them all, close only this task, or cancel. This works the same from the board, the task page, the side panel, the chat and AI assistants.
- A warning icon appears on a task marked Review, Done or Cancelled while one of its subtasks is still open. Hover it to see which ones.
- Moving a task to Review always gives it a review stage, the project's first one unless you pick another, however the change is made.
- When a task still has unmet closing requisites, the "close anyway" button waits two seconds, so you read the list before confirming.
Planning Your Day
- Every card on the planner is a real work session you can drag to another day or time and resize. Deadline markers used to be small dotted cards you couldn't move.
- The planner's timeline highlights today and shows a line at the current time.
- On the Today page, the side panels fold away to give your plan the whole width.
- Meetings show "in 42 min" from an hour before they start, and the count updates by itself.
- A clock sits in the page header and on the task page, in your own timezone.
Resources You Can Edit
- Copy and edit text files in Karea. Markdown, plain text and CSV resources have a copy button and can be edited in place. Your previous version is kept, so one edit can be undone.
- Uploaded files take their type from the extension, so a PDF previews as a PDF.
- Linking or unlinking a resource now shows up in the task's history.
For Your AI Coding Assistant
The Karea connector for Claude, Cursor and other assistants (version 0.12.0) gets smarter and safer:
- References become real links. When your assistant mentions a task, question, meeting or resource in a note, it is written as a full Karea link: a preview inside Karea, and a working link anywhere you paste it.
- "What changed recently?" A new action returns only what changed on a task in the last few minutes, with who did it and how, so assistants can stay in sync without re-reading everything.
- List actions need a filter, so a single call can't dump everything you have.
- Uploads link to the task in the same call, project names match consistently, and question IDs and "today 13:30" style deadlines are accepted everywhere.
- Clearer tool descriptions help assistants call the right tool the first time.
Other Small Improvements And Fixes
- Quick changes to the same task now always apply in the order you made them.
- View-only members can no longer edit or delete notes.
- The task page drops its header bar: the notifications bell floats at the top right and your workload sits next to the refresh button. A review stage now shows next to the status.
- Typing @ to link a meeting in a note returns the same meetings, in the same order, as the task's Related tab, with today's meeting first.
- Hovering a task ID in the chat shows a preview of the task. Chat history stays when you close and reopen the chat.
- Task link tooltips appear above the pointer, so they no longer cover the preview.
- Pasted meeting transcripts keep their line breaks.
- The deadline forecast refreshes after you edit or delete a note, and retries on its own when it can't update.
- The date picker opens above the Reminders panel instead of behind it.
- The activity heatmap shows dates and times in plain words.
- In the new-task window, possible duplicates open in a new tab without losing your draft.
- The Summarize button matches the buttons next to it.
- Links to Karea items in a description no longer show a big link preview card.
- The player's Clear button only clears the tab you are on; the Quran player shows progress within the current verse, and repeat has its own button.
- Opening a question from a meeting no longer stops what you are listening to.
- The landing page and the Getting Started guide are refreshed, with new screenshots.
