New In Karea: A Fresh Look, A Real Chat, And Apple Podcasts

·4 min read

This update is about the little things you touch all day. Karea has a new look, the AI chat feels like a conversation, the editor finally behaves the way you expect, and a lot of rough edges are gone. There is also a new way to listen while you work: Apple Podcasts.

A Fresh Look

Karea has a new typeface across the whole app. It is warmer and easier to read over a long day, and it keeps numbers, IDs and dates crisp.

  • Task and question IDs are now small green pills, everywhere: lists, boards, the task page, meetings, notes and the chat. Click one and you land on that task or question.
  • Priority reads as coloured text instead of a badge: P1 in red, P2 in orange, P3 in yellow. Less clutter, same information at a glance.
  • Links between tasks (related, blocks, created from, subtask of) are lighter and only take the space they need.
  • Save buttons show a spinner while they save, the same way everywhere.

A Chat That Feels Like A Chat

Your messages now appear on the right and Karea's answers on the left, as bubbles. Answers are set in a calm reading font, so longer replies are easy to follow. Any task or question ID in an answer is a pill you can click.

Karea also listens when you ask for brevity. Say "keep it short", "briefly" or "in one sentence", and that is what you get.

Describe A Task, Get The Details Right

When you describe a task in your own words, Karea AI now fills in more of it, and fills it in better:

  • The category is picked from your project's own categories based on what the task is about.
  • The status: "I already started" becomes Doing, "waiting on Ana" becomes Blocked, "someday" goes to Backlog.
  • The priority and tags, when your words point to them.

This works in the new-task window and in the browser extension.

Writing Notes And Descriptions

  • Checkboxes you can click. While you edit a description or meeting notes, checkboxes show as real boxes. Ticking a box in a note updates it immediately, every time.
  • Indented lists. Tab indents a list item and Shift+Tab brings it back, without jumping out of the editor. Pasted lists keep their nesting, wherever you copy them from.
  • Ending a link. The link button now stops the link at your cursor, without removing the link you already wrote.

Meetings

  • The date and time pickers match the rest of Karea. Move the start and the end follows, keeping the meeting's length, just like your calendar.
  • Repeating meetings: when you save a change, Karea asks whether it is for this meeting only or for the whole series.
  • Changes are saved when you press Save, and Cancel undoes them.
  • You can set or change a meeting's project, right from the meeting.
  • Reminders work on meetings too.

Listen While You Work

  • Apple Podcasts joins the built-in player. Search for a show or paste a link, follow your favourites, and browse each category's top charts by country.
  • Play and pause fade in and out gently, including with your keyboard's play/pause key.
  • Control it from any device. Pausing from your phone or another computer now reliably pauses the one that is playing.
  • A Clear button forgets the current track when you want a clean start.

Smaller Updates And Fixes

  • The activity heatmap on each task shows real work: notes, subtasks and links count most, while small edits like changing a date barely register. The help page explains what counts.
  • Alerts keep long task and meeting names short, so the message itself is always visible.
  • In the quick actions panel, pressing Backspace at the start of your search removes the project filter and keeps what you typed.
  • The pinned widget and sticky notes close when you click outside them.
  • Moving a task to Review shows its review stage right away.
  • The project board's ID pills are as wide as their ID, no wider.
  • "Also email me" on a reminder is greyed out when email notifications are off in Settings, with a hint on how to turn them on.
  • Search results in the quick actions panel show when each task was last active.
  • Hovering "add a work session" lists the sessions already planned.
  • You can copy a new task's ID right from the new-task window.
  • Focus mode keeps the player and your place as you move around.
  • The productivity guide shows once per account, not on every login.
  • The browser extension can create a task from a description, and its link takes you straight to it.
