Connect AI apps

MCP · OAuth 2.1

Karea runs a hosted MCP server, so an AI app can read and change your tasks directly - no key to paste, no terminal. You sign in once and approve access, the same way you would connect any other account.

The server URL

This is the only thing you need. Paste it wherever the app asks for an MCP or connector URL.

https://karea.app/api/mcp

ChatGPT

  1. 1. Settings, then Connectors.
  2. 2. Add a custom connector.
  3. 3. Paste the URL above.
  4. 4. Sign in to Karea and approve.

Custom connectors need a paid ChatGPT plan, and on some plans they only appear in a new chat after you enable them for it.

Claude

  1. 1. Settings, then Connectors.
  2. 2. Add a custom connector.
  3. 3. Paste the URL above.
  4. 4. Sign in to Karea and approve.

Works in the desktop and mobile apps. For Claude Code in a terminal, see terminal tools below.

Terminal tools: Claude Code, Codex, OpenCode

Run these on the machine where the tool runs (with Karea Connect, the paired machine). Claude Code signs in to Karea; Codex and OpenCode use an API key from Settings, API keys. Connect also offers this set-up when a tool is missing it.

Claude Code

  1. 1.Add Karea to Claude Code, for every folder:

$claude mcp add --transport http --scope user karea https://karea.app/api/mcp
  2. 2.In Claude Code, type /mcp, pick "karea" and sign in to Karea in the browser that opens.

Codex

  1. 1.Create an API key in Settings, API keys (read and write), and put it in place of <your-api-key> below.

    Open Settings, API keys
  2. 2.Add Karea to Codex:

    $codex mcp add karea --env KAREA_URL=https://karea.app --env KAREA_API_KEY=<your-api-key> -- npx -y karea-mcp
  3. 3.Start a new Codex session: /mcp lists karea.

OpenCode

  1. 1.Create an API key in Settings, API keys (read and write), and put it in place of <your-api-key> below.

    Open Settings, API keys
  2. 2.Open ~/.config/opencode/opencode.json (create it if it is not there) and add this "mcp" entry. If the file already has an "mcp" section, add only the "karea" part inside it:

    { "mcp": { "karea": { "type": "local", "command": [ "npx", "-y", "karea-mcp" ], "environment": { "KAREA_URL": "https://karea.app", "KAREA_API_KEY": "<your-api-key>" } } } }
  3. 3.Start a new OpenCode session: Karea's tools are listed under MCP.

For Claude Code, the Karea skill adds how-to knowledge on top: Settings, Claude Skill.

If it does not connect

Why does it say "Your account was authorized, but no MCP server was found at the provided URL"?

The sign-in worked and the URL did not. Almost always a typo or a guessed address: the server URL is https://karea.app/api/mcp, including the /api/mcp at the end.

Why does it ask me to sign in again every time?

Approve the connection in a browser where you are already signed in to Karea, and allow third-party cookies for the sign-in step.

It connects but sees no tasks. What is wrong?

The connection carries your own account and its projects. If you expected a shared project, check you are a member of it.

What it can do, and what it cannot

The connection can do what you can: read, create and change tasks, notes, meetings and resources across your projects. It cannot change your account, your billing or your API keys. Revoke it whenever you like from the app you connected it to; nothing else is affected.
